Do I need to have a Part 107 license to fly any drone?

Not necessarily. Whether you need a Part 107 license to fly a drone depends on how you plan to use it.

Does the government track me when I fly my drone?

The government does not actively track you in real time when you fly your drone, but certain systems and regulations enable authorities to monitor drone operations under specific circumstances.

Can I get away with saying I didn't know the FAA drone rules?

No, claiming ignorance of FAA drone rules is not a valid defense if you're found violating them. As a drone operator in the U.S., you are legally responsible for knowing and following FAA regulations, even if you are unaware of them. The FAA expects all drone operators, whether flying recreationally or commercially, to educate themselves on the rules.
